This tag could not have come at a better time!
I was just thinking about different ways to talk about my most-recent writing project. Mainly because I finally had a break-through and this world is coming together! Finally, everything is lining up and it’s making me giddy.
I’m calling it Melora, for now (because book titles are hard and no one warned me).
Thank you to the people who tagged me! Savannah from The Book Prophet & Elizabeth from Redgal Musings! Both of these ladies have really awesome blogs and I highly suggest you check out their WIP posts! 😉
– Thank the person who tagged you
– Credit the creator of this tag (Michelle!) and link back to this post so she can find out allll about your WIPs!
– Try to limit the amount of gifs you use per question – I’d say maybe stick to five or less but I’m not the boss of you
Sum up your WIP in four gifs!
I’m looking at the gifs I chose and realizing they don’t exactly go together. Basically, it’s a fantasy with witches + friends + diversity and also an adventure.
I also felt the Hobbit gif was rather appropriate; my MC is a bit of an introvert (something I have experience with lol) and is kind of being forced on an adventure. No dragons in this one though!
Time to introduce your main characters!
Melora is most definitely a bookie. She wants adventure, but her home is with knowledge. She’s trying to follow in her mother’s footsteps* as a witch, and that’s been an exciting quest for the both of us. She also has kind of a cool backstory (in my humble opinion).
*her mother that, if I may add, is still around. That’s right – I’M BREAKING ALL THE YA TROPES. Also I now totally understand why most people follow the ‘missing parents’ trope. They get in the way all the time. Like, could you not be responsible for your child’s life for two minutes?? I need them to go and do some dangerous stuff and they can’t with you around.
Kayin has been one of my favorite characters to write because they developed more than any of the other characters so far. And the character arc! I had planned it from the beginning, but it’s been too much fun to write. 🙂
Also, side note, Kayin’s name used to be spelled Kayen, but I didn’t like the way it sounded in my head. So I switched the “E” to an “I” and suddenly it fit them perfectly? 🤷♀️ Names are weird.
I have some other characters who are borderline MCs, but I’m really focusing on Melora and Kayin.
How would your main character react in a crisis?
Depends, but probably not well. Melora’s good if she has time on her side…and if she doesn’t have to fight anyone directly.
Kayin, however, is a bit more like this:
They’re useful in time-sensitive, might-need-to-fight crisis, while Melora is better at planning things out, long-term style.
If you were to meet your main characters, how would you react?
And if you were to meet your antagonist?
Is there any romance in your WIP? How would you sum it up in gifs?
There is, but since I’m still on my first draft, I haven’t fully figured out how the arc is going to go. I have a vague idea, but my writing document is mostly filled with [insert cute scene here] brackets…is there a gif for that??
How do other characters feel about this ship?
Amused, at this point. I’m not sure if they’ll stay that way as I finish the story, but at this point, I’m just along for the ride.*
*meaning I’m basically letting my character dictate the story and I can’t stop them
How do you want people to react to reading your WIP?
You know, I try not to imagine other people reacting to my stories, but it’s my secret hope is that one of my books become a favorite of someone else’s. How I feel about the Percy Jackson books is how I want someone to feel about my books (maybe? hopefully?).
I don’t think I have anyone to tag since everyone I know who is writing a book has already done this tag! So instead I’ll just ask that if you’ve done this tag, let me know so I can check it out! Some of my favorite blog posts are the ones about WIPs, weirdly enough.
Have a good Monday book ravens!
