Lorelai Diederich, crown princess and fugitive at large, has one mission: kill the wicked queen who took both the Ravenspire throne and the life of her father. To do that, Lorelai needs to use the one weapon she and Queen Irina have in common—magic. She’ll have to be stronger, faster, and more powerful than Irina, the most dangerous sorceress Ravenspire has ever seen.
In the neighboring kingdom of Eldr, when Prince Kol’s father and older brother are killed by an invading army of magic-wielding ogres, the second-born prince is suddenly given the responsibility of saving his kingdom. To do that, Kol needs magic—and the only way to get it is to make a deal with the queen of Ravenspire, promise to become her personal huntsman…and bring her Lorelai’s heart.
But Lorelai is nothing like Kol expected—beautiful, fierce, and unstoppable—and despite dark magic, Lorelai is drawn in by the passionate and troubled king. Fighting to stay one step ahead of the dragon huntsman—who she likes far more than she should—Lorelai does everything in her power to ruin the wicked queen. But Irina isn’t going down without a fight, and her final move may cost the princess the one thing she still has left to lose.

WRITING: C.J. Redwine has a unique writing style that’s PERFECT for fairy tales! The dialogue is one of my favorite parts, but the descriptions! 😮 😆
STORYLINE & PLOT: The beginning was hard to get into, and I had to skim at some parts to get through it. But by page 100 I was fully into the story. With the exclusion of that, the pacing was good and it was a really unique version of Snow White. Definitely not your typical fairy tale retelling.
CHARACTERS: I really loved the characters. They weren’t overdone and they seemed like real people – relatable, funny and you really go through their struggles with them. Warning: Rewine has no problem killing your favorite characters…without mercy💀
RELATIONSHIPS: The romance was perfect for a retelling of Snow White! It was different than the traditional retelling (there’s dragons in this one 😏) and a lot of the plot in this story revolves around the relationship. I don’t mind that in this situation, as it was well done. Also, like Kai is bae.
Lorelai also has a twin brother who I loved. He reminded me of Leo from Heroes of Olympus. I love sibling relationships on books, and IdI like to see more of them.
WORD BUILDING: I love world building in my fantasy novels and what I specifically love is that all of C.J. Redwine’s book take place in the same world! So the world will expand with each book as we get to see the different kingdoms! I got a good picture of the kingdom of Ravenspire and I’m excited to learn about all other places!
